What is Giclée?

  • Archival Pigment Inks

    Instead of standard dye-based inks, giclée prints use high-density pigment inks. These inks offer superior longevity, are highly fade-resistant, and provide a much wider color spectrum.

  • High Resolution Output

    They are printed at exceptionally high resolutions—typically between 1,440 and 2,880 DPI (dots per inch)—ensuring microscopic, continuous-tone details and perfectly smooth color gradations without visible dot patterns.

  • Acid-Free Papers

    Printing is done on museum-grade, acid-free papers, such as 100% cotton rag watercolor paper or textured artist canvas, ensuring the artwork will not yellow or degrade over time.

Giclée vs Standard Art Prints

Giclée, pronounced: zhee-clay -- While a standard poster print or basic digital copy might be made using standard desktop equipment and dye inks, giclées are designed to replicate the exact look, texture, and value of original artwork. Because of the premium materials and slower, high-resolution printing process, giclées are frequently more expensive than standard prints. They are the industry standard for limited-edition art reproductions and archival photography.
